Ok, I've searched and didn't find ... couldn't find a search option either ... so this may have been asked before..
What type of paint do you suggest for kitchen cabinets? I'm building cabinets (momplex plans from this site) and I am ready to start painting the face frames. I used poplar and in some cases pine (bought by mistake) and the cabinets themselves are made from 3/4 birch plywood.
Do I use latex enamel, acrylic latex, oil base??? No clue
Please help before I goof up
Thanks

Paint Cabinets
Average Joe,
We used paint from Sherwin Williams Pro Classic over Sherwin William primer. Hope this helps and love to see a photo of the finished project.

Pro classic paint
Which flavor did you use?
ProClassic® Alkyd Interior Enamel
ProClassic® Interior Waterbased Acrylic-Alkyd Enamel
ProClassic® Interior Acrylic Latex Enamel
Sherwin-Williams Proclassic Waterborne Interior Acrylic Enamel
As you can see, there are a few choices.
Thanks

going with oil base paint
So it begins, after doing some more research I am going with oil base paint. The big reason is because my cabinet doors are going to be raised panel doors. The panel I'm going to make from MDF and from what I've read, it's best to paint those with oil base paint. I think I could get away with just oil base primer then use latex acrylic over it but, I'm feeling adventurous LOL. However, my airless wagner painter didn't work out so well. In an attempt to try a less expensive method, I went to harbor freight and got a HVLP paint gun. I sprayed some test pieces tonight with it and all I can say is WOW, for a $16 gun it wasn't all that bad. I'm not getting a perfect finish with it but, it blows my wagner away and for a fraction of the cost. I think with a little more practice and maybe adding some penetrol oil paint conditioner to the paint I should get a better finish. I'll let you know soon.
