Ikea Fira Drawers

Submitted by Elankat on Sat, 09/18/2010 - 05:41

These little drawers were so versatile and very hackable. They came in a couple styles that were sized for holding paper or CDs. Great for office or craft storage. They were assembled with a few screws and some little nails. Ikea discontinued them. Frownhttp://www.core77.com/blog/obj....._15955.asp

I have an unconstructed one (2 paper drawers & 3 small drawers) and could provide dimensions.

I have most of the different styles at home and could provide dimensions if anyone is interested.

Elankat, maybe you could take some pictures of the different parts. I know the drawer bottoms and the dividers slide into routed dados, but I guess you could just use nails instead.

I'll try and take pics of the parts and post them in here, along with dimensions for the one I have. Yes, there are routed bits in them, but I think there's probably a decent workaround.

Oh, and when I said they were hackable, it goes beyond the decorative techniques. Here are a few of my favorite examples of Fira drawers turned into furniture.

I built a similar one because I needed something a little bigger. I did it without a router and it's totally doable. I might be able to draw up plans with the actual fira dimensions. But it might take a while.

I'd like to make these myself, since Ikea discontinued them. Do you still have the instructions, or the measurements for each piece?

Thank you!
