Free plans from Ana-White.com to build a side hutch for a full media wall. Matching base plans, center console and center hutch plans are available too.

Well, this is the last piece to make this beautiful media wall! I was just over at our Aunt and Uncle's house last night, still admiring how beautiful this media wall turned out! They used Alaska Birch coupled with PureBond Formaldehyde Free Plywood for the box in birch to get the look of solid wood without the cost and extra hassle. It is truly beautiful!

Yep you can make this!!!

This is the last plan for this media center. There's also plans for the center console, center console media hutch, and side base.  I'm also on the Ram's schedule to get a video on the doors out to you - it's really slick how he makes them!

Remember that the media center pictured was altered from the plan dimensions to better suit the space.  Each base was built 6" less in width while the center portion was made 5" wider to accommodate a larger tv.  Don't you love that custom fit tv in there?  Gotta love DIY!

Enjoy the plans!

Dimensions
Dimensions shown above. NOTE Plan base is 6" wider than shown in pictures.

General Instructions

Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!

Instructions

Step 1

Start by building the box. If you are doing adjustable shelves, drill shelf pin holes.

Step 2

Now if you are building two hutches for either side of the center console, the crown will need to extend on opposite sides for each base. In other words, you will need to make the hutches in mirror. So attach base supports so the top overhangs are in mirror.

Step 3

Attach back with glue and 1 1/4" finish nails.

Step 4

Build face frames separately - again in mirror - and then attach to front of cabinet.

Step 5

Finishing Instructions
Preparation Instructions
Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional coats of wood filler as needed. When wood filler is completely dry, sand the project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Vacuum sanded project to remove sanding residue. Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well. Wipe project clean with damp cloth.

It is always recommended to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion. Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.

I'm wanting to build this side hutch and base. While writing down my shopping list, I realised the shop list is the exact same for both the base and hutch part. Is that correct?? I just want to check before I go out and buy extra or not enough wood.
If you could let me know that'd be great..I cannot wait to have this build for my daughters toy room!! Thanks.
