Kids Table & Chairs

Submitted by jeffh on Fri, 01/19/2018 - 12:12

I washed the plans for the farmhouse table in hot water!

I modeled this kids table off the farmhouse table and then made the chairs out of 3/4" plywood with bright colours.

Estimated Cost
two 2x10s and four or five 2x4s, plus screws and stain for the table. All four chairs were made out of one sheet of 3/4" plywood. The stain and paint probably cost more than everything else put together, but I still have tons of it left. If you exclude the leftover stain, I'd guess about $75-$100 for everything.

Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)

Can't remember. Walnut was the stain colour.

2x4 little car, work in progress

I think I'm the first one to use this plan. I am a newbie so maybe I made it harder on myself but I diverted a little bit. I did not have 4 inch screws that would work with the treated lumber, and they were going to cost me a very pretty penny to get. I did have a box of 3 inch treated wood screws leftover from when we made the floating bunk beds » {LOVE THOSE} so instead of building each side, I had to build it level by level, attach them all together inside once I was finished. I use some leftover pieces to add a little seat in the trunk and a license plate. you also might have a few scrap pieces that you could use for rear view mirrors and headlights, but I would like to keep this simple and chic. I have a small wood slat piece that I will use for a grill on the front { from an old wooden toddler bed rail} so his car will look just like the tiny Fisher Price one he plays with! I'm still searching for a free steering wheel off an old toy or perhaps I will use my husband's 2.5lb free weight. I think it is perfect if I can figure out how to attach it... and how to get away from my husband ;)

this is my first solo project. I had the store do most of the major cuts so that was a definite time saver. I only had to do my angle cuts and kept on my leftover pieces to do my modifications. this will sit outdoors so I had to spring for the treated lumber. since I built it level by level I had to secure it inside. all except the last trunk level were secured under the hood out of the way. securing the final level of the trunk gave me the idea to use a "license plate" instead of just a random piece of wood.I can't wait to put it in the play driveway to add to his big outdoor play house! thank you for an excellent easy to follow plan. maybe now I can get a plan for a matching gas pump?? :-)

Twin Beds

Submitted by Jim Parker on Mon, 07/06/2015 - 17:29

After accepting a job in a skilled nursing facility last April, our son move out of our house, taking with him all the furniture from his room. As a result, he virtually left my wife and me a blank canvas to do as we pleased. My wife wanted to put twin beds in the room, and as such, searched high and low for two adult twin beds, all to no avail. Then one day while looking on Anna White’s website, she saw plans for various types of beds, including adult size twin beds. She printed the plans for the beds and asked, “Can you make these?” I studied the plans for a moment, and said, sure. Because the plans were so detailed and easy to follow, I was able to construct both twin beds over the period of a weekend. For me, I found the shopping list and the cut order to be the most useful section of the plans.

Barnboard Live Edge Console

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 01/17/2022 - 10:57

Barnboards with live edge provides an artistic appearance, so this project was to maximize live edge, and barn board finished ends.
Barnboards are chosen based on sturdiness, and also unique edges that add character. A jig is used to rip 2 or 3" off of a live edge board. Then cut to length to assemble project. The shelf is cut to length using a 45° miter cut underneath final finished length. Swing the miter saw to Cut a 45° in the opposite direction of the previous cut on the scrap portion, slicing a long triangle, this is garbage. Then cut a 90° slightly past the miter cut, giving a 90° triangle the will fit under the finished edge of your board. The barnboard grains will match up perfectly, as well as interesting dips and curves on the edges. Glue the piece to the finished board, lining it up carefully. Then airgun nails in for extra support.
This is a project I just finished building for someone, and similar concept to what you had in the latest email. I have enjoyed watching what you have been doing. Keep up the awesome work, and encouraging others!

How come there r no steps to follow for this plan. I’ve made so many of ur items and love watching all ur post to utube. Thank u for ur dedication to better urs and all of our crafts.

Platform Outdoor Sectional

We made our sectional higher off of the ground than the original plan by replacing the single 2x4 base with stacked 2x6s, stained it black and used cushions from Target that we managed to get at 50% off. It fits beautifully in our screen porch and has made what was a waste of space into an outdoor living room. Thanks for the great plans!

I love what you did with the plan. When we do our Pergola on our patio - we are going to change to this type of furniture or a new farm house table. I love the paint color ideas and the adjustments all for such a great price! Great job!

Queen size storage bed with headboard storage

Submitted by Cranky on Mon, 01/29/2018 - 12:49

There was some deviation from the original plans..  We made the storage boxes a bit taller and the headboard has several new features.

First off, the under-bed storage takes up the whole size of the bed.  So the drawers (six of them) are nice and deep.  One of the drawers is actually the dog's bed now.

The picture doesn't show it but behind the headboard there are cubbies for storing books, tablets, phones, glasses, etc.

On both sides of the headboard there are four electrical outlets plus two USB charging outlets for charging tablets, phones, etc.

There are two reading lamps on the headboard as well.

I did the construction portion while my talented wife did the amazing paint job.

Son's Loft Bed

Project and plans were easy to follow. Decided to move the ladder to the foot of the bed so we can make a roll-out desk/table underneath. Also flushed a 1/8" panel board underneath to cover the slats and make it look cleaner. It was a fun first big build, with more to come. Our son loves it!!

Kitchen island

Submitted by adk_native on Sun, 07/14/2013 - 18:36

Needed a kitchen island and loved this plan when I found it on your website. I have tools to cut the lumber but thought I would let Lowes cut the lumber to save me some time. Ha! Made small corrections with what you need like just 2 2x4s to make the 4 legs. Like Ana said, it's all about math. Thank you for the plans. Friends already wanting me to make one for them, ha. Ps...my dad is sold now on the kreg jig!

Thank you for your video and free plans. You are amazing. Took me 6 hours and I had it complete. I did have trouble with the two too back pieces, the pocket holes would not go in, so I screwed the back. I retired and took on wood working and by far…you make everything so simple….thank you

Computer Table

Submitted by jilllo27 on Wed, 05/25/2011 - 15:53

We needed a narrow, tall table for our computer. I used the tryde coffee table plans and altered it to our specifications. I wanted more narrow legs, so we cut the 4x4's to 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 and made them longer so our computer is at standing height. I also chose to eliminate the pieces at the "heads" of the table. Instead of using 2x4's I used 1x2's, 1x4's and 1x6's. It's perfect for our small space! We love it.

Sweet Girl's Loft Bed

Submitted by kvdoyle1 on Tue, 07/16/2013 - 21:48

My husband and I just bought our first house, and we realized that our daughter's full sized bed just wasn't going to fit in her 11x10 bedroom (neither was a twin bed--not with the rest of her furniture). So I enlisted my father-in-law, who I've learned is quite handy, to build this loft bed. It is so perfect in my girl's new room, and I know she's going to have it for years to come! Underneath is the perfect spot for her desk, and the shelves house all of her books perfectly (and she has A LOT!). I'm so excited that my ideas and dreams for her room have come to life!

Loft bed for our girls

Submitted by RenayW on Sat, 07/18/2015 - 05:33

The first picture is of our oldest daughters bed (purple/black). We took the original design and increased measurements to fit a full size mattress and adjusted platform to fit room size. The remaining pictures are of our youngest daughters be (purple/white), which is only a twin.

Some of the tweaks we made were:

* building for a full size bed

* adjusting platform and stair width so the entire bed went from wall to wall

*adding brackets in all 4 corners for extra support (not shown in purple/black bed - weren't added at time picture was taken, just used triangle pieces of extra wood for brackets)

* Used plywood as bunkie board for both beds. Twin - 1 sheet just layed on top of cleats, fit perfect; Full - 1 1/2 sheets, used 'H' clips to hold the two pieces together when on frame and screwed down onto the cleats.

* shortened platform on purple/white bed  bringing the stairs back a little to go under window

* added design element at end of purple/white bed to ensure entry on and off the bed would be safe and always on platform since it was shortned

One thing we did that wasn't mentioned in original plans, unless I either overlooked them or is a standard procedure when working with wood (seeing as I am a complete novice) all the wood we purchased need to be checked for quality - needed straight boards with minimal cracks and all the wood needed to be sanded down. Overall the project wasn't difficult, but I was guided by an expert. It took us about 20hrs over a period of three weekends to finish both beds from purchasing material to setting up in room. But that was due to emergencies, work schedules and traveling to the workshop we were using.

Estimated Cost
We purchased material for both beds at the same time, total cost was about $300-$330....so roughly $150-$160 each *(note full size material cost a little more)

Doll Mattress

Submitted by cslavinsky on Mon, 02/05/2018 - 16:07

I'm building a doll bunk bed from Ana's plans later on for a friend's daughter.  I figured that since I had all the materials to do the linens, I would get that finished now.  I used the plans from Ana's 18" doll mattress instructions and created these two sets of beds - they're "sisters" but not twins, since I ran out of materials to make 2 quilts.  Since it's going to one recipient, I figure she won't mind having 1 quilt and 1 blanket that coordinate.  The mattresses were SUPER easy to put together, and I opted to keep them plain without buttons, in case I want to make fitted sheets at another time.  Took me about 10 minutes to make each mattress.
