Complete Diningroom Set

I have lived in my house for over 9 years and have never done anything to it until recently. I have made the commitment to move away from plain white walls and boring "plug-n-play" furniture. I discovered Ana's site a few months ago and have been a daily visitor. I made this dining room set with the confidence Ana's instructions gave me and I am forever grateful.

I made a few adjustments to the Parson Chair, making it longer in the back and used 5 degree angle instead of 15 and made the seat wider for our hefty hips and I used all 2x3s for the "chair bones".

A little over $350 for everything including fabric

I really like the matching bench.  I am going to make this table for my daughter and she wants a bench with it.  I am wondering where you found matching legs short enough for the bench?  I have been looking but what I find are legs for end tables but they are too long.  Seems the bench-top height should be a standard 18 inches.  Thanks for any help.

For my soon-to-be niece

Submitted by mikeanddad on Tue, 12/20/2016 - 07:46

Thanks for the great plans! I built this toy box with my dad for my soon-to-be niece.

We followed the plans closely, but added four additional parts:

1) Added 3 inch foam, batting, and fabric on the top of the toybox

2) Lined the interior. We used 1/8 inch harboard. We cut the harboard to size, used spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the harboard, and then attached the hardboard to the toy box with loctite adhesive.

3) Added two handles to the side

4) Used a vinyl sticker pruchased from Etsy with my neice's name on the front

We used semi-gloss paint and finished the toy box with sem-glass polycrylic (brushed on, not the spray can).

Enjoy!

Best,

Mike

X - Farm House Table

I modified this plan just a little on the ends, and I can not tell you how pleased I am with it! I did run into some issues with lining the boards up properly due to imperfections (and not laying the boards out ahead of time in the store because I was rushing at closing time), but in the end, I decided to add a wood filler in between the boards and everyone just raves over it. I could not imagine it having come out better. I would not do it any other way.

Thank you Ana!!

PS... I have a wonderful idea for a loft bed, but the plans are not provided. I know you would do it justice.. how do I submit the photo????

Toddler Farmhouse/Platform Bed

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 01/19/2017 - 09:54

Our 18 month old was constantly climbing out of her crib so we got a cheap toddler bed and tried it out. She liked to go under the bed and almost always got one of her legs stuck between the slats on the under side of the matress.

I decided to build a bed and found Anna White's Toddler Farmhouse bed plans. We modified the plans ever so slightly to make it a platform style to address our original issue.

For the stain, we used 1 coat of steel wool and white vinegar that sat for 24 hours and prepped the wood with 3 bags of black tea steeped in boiling water for 10 minutes. The color was exactly what we were looking for.

This is my first project and there was a good amount of learning involved but it turned out amazing!

This is such a thoughtful and insightful post! I really appreciate the way you’ve highlighted the importance of simplifying complex ideas. It's so easy to get lost in overwhelming amounts of information, and that's where services like Nocramming https://nocramming.com/discounts/preply-promo-code can make a huge difference. They help break down content into digestible chunks, making learning or understanding something new much easier and more manageable. Definitely a great approach to keep things clear and focused—thanks for sharing this perspective!

Three story doll house for my granddaughter

Here's my version of the Dream Doll House. Three stories, made with birch plywood and pine, featuring realistic stairs, baseboards, crown molding, exterior corner battens, and left in the natural state with just a few coats of water-based poly. Put the whole thing on casters for ease of rolling around the playroom. Fun project and the hugs were all the reward I needed!

Children's Playhouse

Submitted by Markb25 on Wed, 10/28/2020 - 08:54

A few years back I decided to build a playhouse for my daughters birthday, the ones available locally were plastic garbage. Since then people started coming forward asking me to build ones for their kids, which is great as it's kept me busy and sane after being forced into early retirement. I've stuck mainly to the more traditional looking on ground house but, soon requests came in for treehouse-style ones; taking Ana's playhouse deck plans and adapting them slightly I now starting my fifth order for a platform house. Being in Cyprus all our timber is imported and very limited, I've more chance of seeing a Unicorn than a piece of Cedar which has meant a little more work involved to make sure they withstand up to the elements, we only get around 20 days of rain a year but, the summer heat is like the surface of the sun. Fortunately, with this not being a new problem there are plenty of options available for preservation/protection, the 'colours of Greece' range by Kraft paints perfect, its sprays beautifully and the colours spot-on for kids.

$1000

Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)

For the main part, the houses have been finished using wood aqua by kraft paints using the 'colours of Greece' range, lots of soft pastels and Mediterranean inspired colours. the application was using via HVLP spray gun and four coats. Sanded lightly with 220 grit in between coats and finished with up to and including 1500 grit post paint to give a glass-like finish.

Gallery Ledges

Submitted by Mhillis on Sat, 01/12/2013 - 10:10

Our living room is long with a vaulted ceiling. I wanted to find a way to break up the length of the room visually, and Ana's ten dollar ledges were the perfect solution. They also had a great price tag!

I changed the the plan just a tad to break up our wall space, creating two ledges - one 6' and one 4' long - instead of one that is 10' long.

The only other variation we made to the plan was adding kreg pocket hole plugs (http://www.kregtool.com/solid-wood-pockethole-plugs-prodview.html) since we hung our shelves high enough to see where screws were drilled in.

After shelves were assembled, I painted them using Lowe's Antique White in satin finish. This project was easy, fast, and very affordable! I love that we can change out the items on display either seasonally or whenever we want a fresh new look. These ledges would work in any room and even instead of a chair rail in a dining room... and the lip on the front makes them safe so that nothing will slide off!

The Simple Bed (Full-Size)

Submitted by JReed on Mon, 01/21/2013 - 12:17

We had been looking for a headboard for our son for the longest time, but could never find anything we liked in the shade we needed in the stores. Fell in love with this bed, thought it was one of the more "boyish" styles that I've seen which was what I wanted for my son. Asked my husband if he thought he'd be able to build it, he said he'd try and voila! We, however, modified the plans a bit and only made a headboard, but overall, I love it!

Clear pine bunk bed

We started this late 2013 and finished it June 2014. We used an old IKEA bed hardware for the middle support for the full mattress. We had to use Hemlock Fir "white wood" for the 4x4's (found at Menards in Wisconsin). We used Satin polyurathane from Minwax and allowed a month for the fumes to die down. My boys and guests seem to enjoy the bed.

Extra Tall Bar Stools

Submitted by TCnTash on Wed, 12/17/2014 - 09:21

My wife and I built our whole bar, from the shelves, bar, and the kegerator! We needed stools to round out our endeavor but we werent willing to shell out the kind of money required.  My wife found this plan and we morphed it a bit to meet our needs.  The KREG JIG saved us big time! The seat upholstry took us a bit of time, but we figured it out thanks to YouTube.  Great project for a weekend, took us a tad bit longer due to the arrival of our daughter but, we still got it done!

~$150, this got us three stools. We had bigger measurements than the plan called for, so you could definitely squeeze another chair if you stick to the plan.
