Rolling/Revolving Desk Chair

Submitted by Robinwood on Wed, 04/10/2013 - 12:16

After making my grandson's Airport Loft Bed, he said he needed a different chair for the desk inside. But, he wanted wheels and he wanted it to go up and down and turn. All of the kid's rolling pneumatic chairs online were way too expensive and they didn't go low enough to fit under the desk; so I decided I would have to build it - just had to figure out how. Fortunately about that same time, I got an ad for Harbor Freight with a Pneumatic Stool on sale for $19.00 with the coupon.

The stool could have been used as is, but I wanted to maintain the wood look and have a back to the chair. I built the seat from wood scraps - removed the cushioned seat from the stool and just fastened the new wood seat, which is 13" square. It adjusts from 15" to 20" and holds up to 300 pounds; so he shouldn't outgrow it. As a bonus, he can store some of his airplanes in the rack at the bottom.

Farmhouse Bed

Submitted by KelleighW on Sun, 04/14/2013 - 05:27

I fell in love with this bed as soon as I found the plans on the web site. It took me a little while to go ahead and build it - I'm the worst procrastinator!! I had to adjust the measurements to suit my Australian size king mattress so I measured and remeasured my mattress and procrastinated some more. The instructions were very easy to follow. I think the hardest thing was deciding on how I was going to finish it. I finally decided the dark stain and I absolutely love it! I added support blocks in the middle of the bed for peace of mind (I was scared that it would collapse) but this baby is sturdy as anything.

Estimated Cost
$300
Estimated Time Investment
Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)
Finish Used
Stain found at my local hardware store (in Australia) - cant remember the brand name but the stain colour is "Japanese Brown". I applied two coats of stain then two coats of spray on polycrylic.

Balustrade Coffee Table

Submitted by pde00311 on Mon, 03/02/2015 - 08:06

Seeing the plans for this, we knew what we wanted as the coffee table for our living room to go with our antique sofa and bench. We wanted a shabby chic look, so I experimented with the Minwax pickling water based stain. A few months later, I built matching Kentwood end tables.

$40+$110 for the legs

One coat Minwax white wash pickling stain over one coat colonial pine (both water based)

Outdoor Sofa

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 05/30/2017 - 08:54

The instructions were easy to follow and although 4x2s are not readily available in the UK, it easily translated into 95mm x 45mm treated timber.  Instead of the screws suggested in the video I used Miller Dowels so there are no screws in the build at all.  It was challenging to fit the back section but this was solved by drilling half-way through, fitting the dowel and then filling with a glue and sawdust mix.  Fortunately my wife has massive stock of upholstery material and she knocked up these cushion covers in an afternoon, which was less than the build time.  I have two English Springer spaniels and they think this is the best seat ever for a sunny day in Shropshire.

American Girl Doll

I was asking if I could make a crib, changing table and high chair for a little girl. The total hours that took me to make all three was five days then another 3 hours of sewing on top. I took the plan form the crib that was already posted and use the farm house style look. The high chair is the same plan that you can see on here.

As for the changing table I could not find any kind of plans at all. So I left it up to my thinking deals. I used 1x3 for the legs. 1x4 for the top shelf and 1x3 for the bottom self with plywood for the base of the shelf's

Triple Pedestal Farmhouse Table

Submitted by pde00311 on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 07:45

Because we were hosting Thanksgiving this year, we decided to fill our new dining room with a table that had space to fit both families. Then, we found these antique chairs on Craigslist. This table fills the room and matches the style of the chairs perfectly. We still need to refinish the cushion part of the chairs, but we loved the finish on them so much that we had Sherwin Williams match the stain on them. We also built the triple pedestal bench to match.

Washer and Dryer Pedestal

This thing is awesome! The access to my crawlspace was conveniently put under the dryer, but with both the washer and dryer on the pedestal I can slide it forward by myself if I need to get into the crawlspace. Bonus! I couldn't find any basecap so I used a plain old piece of trim. I also had some 1/8 inch plywood that I ripped to trim the front and sides. Very happy with how it turned out.

Estimated Cost
50 (but I had spare OSB for the bottom, so I only bought 1 4x8)

TV Stand

This is my very first project. This is a cross between the Rustic X console and the Tryde media console. I liked the top of the Tryde, but the ease of the Rustic X.

I painted the trim in slightly off-white, the sides, top and shelf are done in a satin polyurethane.

I was amazed at how easy this was to make following your plans. The hardest part was getting my husband to let me use the power tools (most of which I have either bought for him as gifts or I owned before we got married). He says, "I thought you were afraid of the table saw?" Only when you use it, dear!

This took a day to build, and then forever to finish (it was like waiting for paint to dry ;)

Thank you for all of the amazing plans you have on this site. You may just be my new hero Ana!

Next up, a dining room table for my daughter, then the farmhouse bed for the other daughter. With a few tools, a little patience and couple of bags of O negative blood on standby, there is nothing you can't DIY. (I kid, I hurt myself with hand tools, never power tools).

Estimated Time Investment
Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
CIL semi-gloss in Silk Moon for trim, Minwax satin finish polyurethane for shelves, top and sides. Three coats.

Modern Slat Top Outdoor Wood Bench

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 08/03/2021 - 06:31

Love your easy instructions! I used all 2x4's because it was made with left over wood from another project. I burned the top pieces to get the grain to stand out and painted the legs. I think they turned out beautiful. I also used your 2x4 Adirondack Chair Plan to match the bench.
Thanks,
Yvette
