Playhouse with swingset

Submitted by GreenEnvy on Tue, 02/25/2014 - 21:58

I combined a few different plans here, mostly the Playhouse deck, swingset.

I haven't finished it yet, this spring I want to finish the exterior as it's just primed plywood right now. Still going to add a window above the balcony (there is a loft up there).

I insulated the roof/ceiling and will insulate the walls when we finish it. In the bottom we'll be putting in a sandbox with a cover that folds up into benches.

It was a fun project and should give our girls many years of fun.

Estimated Cost
$1000
Estimated Time Investment
Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)
Finish Used
Right now the plywood is just primed, we'll be putting some sort of siding or other exterior sheets to finish it.

Rolling laundry cart

Submitted by smitcher on Wed, 06/03/2020 - 13:48

My husband and I have been inspired by your website and are getting started with wood working projects. We did this cart on the weekend. We used MDF board for the front, back and shelf bottoms because we had it laying around after replacing our garage shelving. I’m pleased with how it turned out given that we are just beginners. I do think we’ll have to invest in a table saw. Not a fan of working with MDF board. We used the example found on Infarrantlycreative.net but changed it up slightly. (Sorry about the first photo, I can’t seem to delete it)

Estimated Cost

Approximately $35 CAD because we had the MDF, paint and nails

Pantry Door Spice Rack

Submitted by HR Dad on Wed, 09/02/2020 - 18:11

First I had to flip the pantry door from opening into my small pantry to opening out. Doing this allowed me to utilize back of the door for this spice rack. Frees up quite a bit of space in our cabinets, drawers and pantry for other items. Substituted braided picture frame wire for the wood dowels; still keeps all items secure on the shelves but also allows for more flexibility when dealing with canister sizes that are very close to the amount of space in between shelves. Already had the paint from doing some baseboards as well as quarter inch ply. So, final cost was for 1x4's and 1x6's coming out to about $30

$30.00.

Hubby and I finished our couples project. We combined the plans from the classic storage bed and the farmhouse headboard design. I love the storage aspect and the farmhouse style. We also converted the measurements to a california king size. The build is really sturdy, I know it will last the test of time.

Table turned cabinet

I had an old table that was in my basement.  I wanted to re-do my craft room.  I have been thinking and thinking about it.  So when I saw Ana’s link to her drawer organizer – and how to install drawer slides – I thought – ok – now it’s time to do it.

I spent about a week drafting plans, making measurements.  At first I was going to recycle the metal sliders I had left over from the kids dressers…but there wasn’t enough – and to do 12 drawers would be more money than I wanted to spend.

So – a trip to home depot – I was able to take this table that was just collecting junk – literally – to an organized and functional crafting cabinet – with huge deep drawers.  There are 12 drawers in total.  They are all 6 inch in height, 26 inches deep, and then there are 8 that are 16 inches wide, and 4 that are 12 inches wide.

Here are some before and after pictures – I have all the details on the build on my blog.  I wouldn’t have been able to do it without Ana.  Her plans and continual inspiration!

Around $80

American Girl Dollhouse with Farmhouse Bed, Bunk Bed, and Furniture

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 01/08/2019 - 08:46

I've been building Ana White American Girl doll furniture for my two daughters for the last three years, culminating with my biggest build of all - a modified version of Ana's dollhouse.

My wife kept telling me it would end up being huge, and she was right.  The great news is that it doubles as storage when the girls aren't playing!  2 Bedrooms, kitchen, living room, bathroom, and upstairs bonus room for dance and gymnastics.  78" tall x 76" wide, mounted to the wall studs for safety.   Lots of joy in our home on Christmas day.  Thanks Ana!

Beachy Storage Sofa

I love my new sofa! It is ten times more comfy than our old one. We live on an island and it was definitely cheaper to build my own sofa than to ship one in and pay duty on it. Thank you Ana for making this possible! Never thought I'd be building my own sofa, but we are so thankful for it. We even threw together our own little ottoman/toy box to go along with it from scraps...added bonus!

Built from Plan(s)
Estimated Cost
Total for everything probably about $500 ( a little higher costs for the wood here on the island, in addition to the other materials)
Estimated Time Investment
Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
Clear Satin Poly finish on the parts of the wood that are still visible after the fabric goes on.

this is so amazing! We go through so many sofas, mainly because we buy used, and you never know if they are going to last. This one looks really sturdy, and it could be recovered if the fabric got old, or you just wanted to update. Definitely considering this before we buy another one. And the storage hidden inside makes it even more desirable!! Love the fabric you chose as well.
