Cedar Fence Picket Raised Garden Beds

I made these for my 81 year-old Grandma, and I will be making some for my own front yard soon. I followed the plans and ripped the fence boards instead of buying the optional 1x2s. My awesome dad showed me how to use the table saw, but the rest I did all by myself! We decided to leave them unfinished for a natural look. It took me about 7 hours total broken up to make all three, but this is my first project and I was slow. Thanks Ana, for inspiring this working Mom to pick up a hammer and get stuff done!

Porch Swing Glider

Are there any dimensions for the glider part? I have first year agriculture students building this, but we are unsure of the cut list for this. I am sure I can figure it out as the teacher, but with 20 students in the class, it would be better to be able to give them instructions to follow on paper. Thank you!!!

New Workshop - Let the Fun Begin!

I was really into building things and DIY over 10 years ago, but due to work/life I hadn't done anything since 2009. I was going pretty crazy working from home during the pandemic, and decided to get back into home improvement to have something to look forward to. After doing some painting and building a few accent walls out of shiplap and reclaimed wood (and loving it), I decided to turn my single car garage into a shop. This is when I found Ana White, and absolutely loved the plans and videos around the wall storage and workbench. I can't believe how sturdy everything is, how straightforward the plans are, and how well this turned out. It made me want to build all the things, and I'll be taking on many projects in the future. (my apologies for the pictures being in the wrong orientation - can't seem to adjust them)

Modified Toy / TV Armoire

Used Ana’s Toy/TV armoire plans, tweaked the dimensions to make it a bit taller. Added drawers and a hanger rod inside. Found deer antler used for handles. Color and cosmo wallpaper thanks to my wife. Perfect for a quirky old cabin in Colorado. My first attempt at furniture. Thanks!

My First Greenhouse

This was my first attempt at building a greenhouse. I wanted my cucumbers to be able t climb high so I made the house higher than the plans showed. It's also a little larger too. Since I am in Europe my dimensions are in meters. The overall size is 3 x 6 meters. I also built it on top of 100mm x 100mm lumber (the equivalent of 4x4's). It took 5 sheets of 6mm thick polycarbonate in 2 x 6 meters.

DIY Vintage Step Stool

First Thing I've Built

Keep in mind I am a novice at best and this took me a total of 12 hours over 2 days to construct and stain and line.  Filling will be a separate project all together!

I opted to remove the top row of lumber all around to have something to attach bird netting to to keep the critters out and make it easier to reach in, also a cost consideration. The posts are still the recommended 3 ft I also changed to 12ft X1in boards instead of 12ft x2in also in the interest of cost.

This is our 2nd project - we liked building the bookshelf so much, we decided we're gonna keep going and need a good workbench. Got these plans from the Family Handyman Website (http://www.familyhandyman.com/DIY-Projects/Woodworking/Workbenches/how-…). They claim the cost to be $50, but it was closer to $80 for us - still a GREAT project and easy to put together with the nail gun.

Grey Washed Flat Exterior paint, mixed 50/50 with water. Varathane Satin finish. Practice on scrap wood wiping on/off the grey paint to get the desired look. Polyurethane has a yellow hue, the varathane is crystal clear.

DIY Folding Workbench

I'm a beginner DIYer and I knew one day I was going to have to make a workbench. I made mine 24x48 so I wanted a little more support to hold up the drop down leaf. I searched your site and found another plan with these gatelegs and knew this is what I wanted. I love the way it came out. What do you think?

*Applied Minwax English Chestnut Stain over whole surface using foam brush being sure to saturate exposed wood areas
*Used old T-shirts to wipe away excess stain
*Sprayed with matte clear sealer (Krylon)

Bases - Valspar's paint+primer in one in Antique White from the oops bin. Desktop - General Finishes water based stain in Espresso. Top coat - I used Minwax's spray-on polycrylic for the bases and GF's water-based polycrylic in Gloss for the top. Contact paper from Blue for the insides. Paint was rolled and brushed, stain was applied with a rag. Polycrylic was rolled and brushed. Use good brushes (I used Purdy) and you'll never see a brush mark.

Deluxe A frame chicken coop

This project was based on the A frame chicken coop. I changed the dimensions  to metric with the main frame being 3m long and each side of the frame being 1.7m. The 2x4 was from reclaimed decking with new 2x2 for shorter pieces.

I added a chicken door (with a rope to open and close) and an egg door (with a tower bolt)  at each end of the enclosed chicken house section at the top. The chicken house has a removable roosting bar and space for the nesting boxes.  One of the bottom sections has a hinged frame to allow easy access to the run.
The hardest part was fixing wire netting to the inside as there wasn't much room to swing a hammer to put the fixings into the wood. I used a mix of 13mm and 25mm mesh and welded 50mm framing. There is wire mesh all the way round the outside to stop foxes digging into the run.

hi - I'm thinking of building this to hang on a wall like you have. Do you think the dowels are necessary? Seems like it would give a little more shelf room without the dowels - but do you feel like the spices would fall out without them?

Perfect vanities! When I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, I searched online for vanity plans and thankfully your site and these vanities popped up. I love all the storage with these, so much better than ANYTHING pre built we looked at online. We had seen vanities that I was going to settle for but they were around $3,000, and I didn’t love them, so my husband said he could build something and this was the result using your plans. I am so thankful and the whole project was a fraction of the cost! I stained them with a vinegar and steel wool stain with poly over it. I couldn’t be more grateful for you and your generosity of plan sharing. Thank you!

Sleep and play loft bed

This was my first project from the plans I got from this site. I had a blast building it. Made it out of poplar so that it would be strong enough to support either me or my wife on it with our daughter. Directions were simple and easy to follow. Key to this project as mentioned is to be precise in measurements and square! My wife and daughter both love this bed and now have 3 more projects lined up for me. I am so lucky!!! What family wants you and urges you to build more things from wood!

Love the colors! We are going to do a combo of these plans and the cottage loft bed for my step daughter. She's almost 7 and really too tall for the cottage loft bed but she wants the playhouse look of it. I'm hoping of coming up with a way to remove the "walls" when she's a little older. I'm thinking of putting it in a corner like you did and then just do the exposed side and front. Your family is very lucky you are so willing to build for them:)

I am guessing the corner posts are 2 x 4s, the top is 2 x 10s.  It looks like the width is 6’ (looking at the floor carpet tiles being 24” square). So 2 - 2 x 10s side by side for the main part of the desk top and 2 - 2 x10s perpendicular on each side of the chair.  I guess the height is subject to choice and the length of each side would also be subject to choice or to the length of the 2 x 10s to be economical.

 

an educated guess would be 4 - 8’  2x10s for the top and 6 - 6’ 2 x 4s for the legs?  

 

Anyone else have any input here?  Open to suggestions.....
