Rustic-Xless Coffee Table

Submitted by wthalin on Mon, 12/07/2015 - 10:55

I used the Rustic X Coffee Table plans to create this table and changed the dimensions to make the table square for better accommodation in our living room since we have 2 full size sofas instead of the standard sofa/loveseat combo. I still need to add the actual X's and will add an updated picture when I finish those.

Modified Simple Cheap Console Table

This was my first project from Ana's web site. I modified the table by expanding the trim of the stretcher to the outsides and adding a shelf. I also added an additional shelf in the middle. I cut the apron for the top down to two inches, and an inch a half for the lower two shelves. I distressed each piece of wood individually by hitting it with a bag of nails and various other things.

Estimated Cost
$40.00 - I had the stain and sand paper and polyurethane.
Estimated Time Investment
Afternoon Project (3-6 Hours)
Finish Used
I used two coats of dark walnut minwax and two coats of satin polyurethane. If anyone has any tips for their "best" finishing techniques, I'm all ears.

And what a fun project, whacking it with nails and such to distress. Did you feel de-stressed afterward?

It looks great.

I could have given the table a little bit more of my stress. Unfortunately I couldnt swing the bag too hard, because the nails would rip right through it and fly all over the place. Maybe next time i'll use a pillow cause and swing a little harder.

Rustic X Bench

Submitted by LiMa87 on Mon, 10/28/2013 - 14:26

This was my first build with minimal help from my husband. I'm unsure how long it took to build since I worked on it periodically and forget how much I spent on the wood since this took place several months ago. When I started this project, I did not have a pocket hole jig and since then have learned how invaluable that tool is. It's not perfectly square but it's not as noticeable sitting on carpet as it would be on hard flooring.

Probably a harder first-time project to start with but overall I'm happy with the outcome and looking forward to my next project.

Estimated Time Investment
Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
Minwax in Cherry topped with Minwax in Dark Walnut. Painted the base white and distressed with the Cherry stain.

Thank you for this plan! We did a few alterations like the soft close shaker doors. We painted with Navy Blue paint mixed with BBFrosch chalk mix. Love this so much! John + Jina

4X4 Truss Beam Table and Bench

I have been eyeing many tables on Ana's website for some time now. When she posted the plans for this 4x4 Truss Beam Table, I knew that it was the one that I wanted to build.
The hardest part of the project was actually picking out super straight boards for the table top and bench top. The construction of the table was really easy!
I finished it with Rustoleum American Walnut stain and 3 coats of Rustoleum Semi-gloss polyurethane.
My family loves the table! I am super happy with how it turned out!!

Table looks great, I am braving this project at some point, but have procrastinated trying to find the right look and plan. Yours looks great. What grade pine did you use? Did you use the douglas fir for the 4x4's?

did you use the finish Ana recommended or did you do your own version? I like the color of the finish.

King Size Farmhouse Bed

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 10/03/2019 - 13:02

This farmhouse bed is a combination of Ana White's Farmhouse Bed/Modern Farmhouse Bed plans as well as some slight modifications. I modified the bed using materials already on hand and leftover from past jobs. The 4x4 posts are 2 - 2×4s glued and filled together. The headboard was made using 2x2's and tongue and groove boards. The side rails, foot board and matress supports are 2x10's since this was old material from a job site my husband was on. I opted for no footboard to make the bed feel less bulky. The finish was done using chalk paint in a light gray, giving it a more modern look.

Estimated Cost
$200
Estimated Time Investment
Day Project (6-9 Hours)
Finish Used
The bed is a painted finish using Rust-Oleum Chalked in Aged Grey. The paint dries quickly allowing for two coats to be applied on the same day. Between coats, I lightly sanded the paint to remove any roughness. I find chalk paint to be durable and easy to apply. I opted not to apply a clear coat as our bed doesn't see a lot of wear and tear.

Outdoor Furniture Builds

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 06/28/2023 - 07:22

Hi Ana, after building your essential chairs I decided to build my grandson a small one I burned it with a torch and then clear coated it and it turned out so sweet. I also built a picnic table and added a different crossmember to it for strength. I also built a glider swing that I used from an old pattern from many years ago. Still without going to your site and watching you build on YouTube I would not have attempted any of this. I love all of the things that you build and you have inspired me so much. Thank you for all you do and keep those wonderful plans coming! My next project is going to be that little workshop that you build in panels and put together that you made for your friend. I'm going to make one and turn it into a lawn mower shed.

Rustic X Console Table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 04/13/2016 - 17:17

I've always loved the Xs in this table. I needed to make mine a little shorter, and I took out the middle shelf because I didn't need so much shelf space. But I love it. Thanks so much for the great plans!!
