LOVE our new hall tree!
This was incredibly easy to build for a semi-newbie! The shopping list and cut list were a huge help! We love Ana-White.com!!!

Mud Room
We were in desperate need of some functional storage in our laundry/mud room. I had been searching for a long while for a solution and almost built another mud room configuration from this site until I saw the 'Smiling Mud Room'. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for! This is the first thing my husband has ever built and I think he did an awesome job. We had to change a few things to fit our room and taste and there are still a few things that need to be finished (hooks, trim pieces and painting). It took him about 20 hrs total to get this far.

Thanks! I wanted to be able to reach the shelves without a step stool and I am not very tall. I agree it would have looked better if they went to the ceiling but functionality won out over style.
Christmas For My Granddaughters
I made this for my two granddaughters. I used can lids for the burners and an 8x10 baking pan for the sink. I made the stove knobs from ceramic drawer pulls with plywood disks for the dials. I added nylon bushings to let the knobs turn easily. I painted the outside with Rustoleum magnetic primer so that small magnets will stick. Unfortunately, the primer is black and the yellow paint did not cover well. (I should have sanded the primer before I painted with the yellow paint.) I used Kreg pocket screws and plugs for assembly. I used brads to attach the back. I glued all the joints. I recessed the toe kick 3/4"; it would have been easier (to sand and to paint) if I had placed it flush with the front face. It would have been easier to paint the interior before I attached the back. The plans were great. The girls love their kitchen.
Exterior: Rustoleum magnetic primer, 2 coats, 1 quart
Topcoat, interior and exterior: Rustoleum Ultra Cover, Gloss Sun Yellow, 2-3 coats, 1 1/2 quart.
The topcoat might have covered the black primer better if I had sanded the primer smooth.
I used Hickory Hardware P6992-C hinges for the oven; I liked the motion.

I have just finished this project one thing I recommend is the pneumatic lifts for the lids they are 10 dollars a piece and make a huge difference
Country Dining Room Table
This is made from Pecan. Its the first dining room table I made. It is finished with Teak oil.
My New Coffee Table
I found a table on Pinterest that I wanted to make but I wasn't sure how to make the base for it. I used the Tryde Coffee Table plans to build the base but then I altered the plans of the top of the table to give my table the look I desired. I LOVE it. It's very sturdy and a beautiful addition to our living room.

Easy Shelf Bench
I used some leftover 3/4" maple/birch plywood for the box, douglas fir 2x2 legs, and free trim from a deconstruction warehouse to make this super simple shelf bench. We keep a select few books on ledge shelves for my daughter to read through for the week or so, and all the other books are stored in the bins in this little bench. :)

Glad you like it!
So pleased you like this, Joanne. I've been thinking about these builds for some time. It was nice to make very simple versions and use up some wood in our garage. :)
Shanty Open Shelf Console
This was my first project with doors. I made it for my daughter's new house and she just loves it! I had a little trouble with the doors wanting to swing inside the console, so I added very small wood blocks on each inside top corner to stop them.
Kids Picnic Table
Fun and easy project!

Not sure why the photo is upsidedown. This project was very easy with the proper tools.

72 inch vanity
We needed an inexpensive alternative for our master bathroom remodel. After looking at Ana-White.com, I decided I should build a vanity myself.
I had been gifted some newel posts, which I thought would work great for legs. The aprons and shelf slats were made with "choice" pine that I purchased from a big box store. I had two drawers leftover from a piece of furniture that was repurposed and I added new fronts from a piece of wood left from that same piece of furniture. I also had some leftover 1/4 inch plywood that I used to partition the drawers.
The overall length once the counter is installed will be 72 1/2 inches by 23 inches wide. Because we are using vessel sinks (sitting on the countertop) I choose to make the base of the vanity 32 inches high.

Modern Parsons Desk
This was my first project - thanks Ana.
I had to shrink the dimensions from the plan to fit our space. Pretty happy with how it turned out given it was my first project.

Why did you use poplar if you were painting it?
Nvm I just saw the blog post, the first build is such a learning experience! Go for whitewood next time :p

In fairness...
the previous poster had my line of thought when I purchased the wood - Poplar looks great and would look fantastic with just a little bit of stain, right?
But I didn't know that staining poplar would be such a challenge.
So, yes, poplar paints well and that's why I painted in the end.
Kitchen Cabinet Refinish
These cabinets had 3+ layers of paint on it and I had been wanting to see what was underneath for awhile. I decided to, after my first project I submitted here, started to re-due/re-surface these cabinets. It took forever to sand all of these layers of paint off. I was super excited to find that the wood under the paint was actually really nice. I hope you like the results just like I did.

Rustic X coffee table
Wanted a new coffee table and loved the plans for this. I wanted something slight different though with a solid hardwood top.
I used only reclaimed timber. The frame is from old construction lumber which I planted and squared off. The top and bottom slats are iroko and sycamore sourced from commercial wood recycling project.
I had a little bit of wood left over so made some matching coasters and coaster holder

Fabulous coffee table!
You did a stellar job on this! Thank you for sharing:)
A Chippendale Clothes Press
I made this from a design in Thomas Chippendale's "The Gentlemen and Cabinetmakers' Director". It has two internal shelves for storing clothes. All the drawers have working locks and the brass is from Londonderry.com brasses. Their motto is "When Authenticity Counts". It took about 250 hours. Wholly done with mortise and tenon (pinned) and dovetails. The carcass is dovetailed to avoid using any nails. The feet are typical Chippendale with ogee bracket feet. I used only rough lumber which I mill to final dimensions. The moulding is my own design.

Toddler Bed
This is the biggest project I've tackled to date (I can count on one hand the little projects I've done before--stools, simple shelves, etc.). This is a beginner project, for sure. I made this bed one night when I couldn't sleep and it took about 4.5 hours to build the four main pieces: headboard, footboard, and two sides with the cleats. The next day I sanded, stained, added shellac, then assembled the 4 parts--"active" time about 1.5 hours. I used four simple L-brackets (about 50 cents each) to assemble so I will be able to easily take the bed apart... he'll outgrow it too soon.
Other than that, I followed the plans exactly as they were laid out. I like the overall look of the bed. For the guardrails: I attempted but did not like the guardrails from the plans. They were not the right size. Because his room is train-themed, I just wood-glued some extra train tracks in a crescent shape to a thin piece of scrap wood (cut and sanded to fit the tracks).
This is a fun little bed. If I had to give up my youngest's crib (so sad)... it could only be for something this cute.

Industrial Barn Breakfast Table
This is a table and bench set I made for a couple of friends who moved into a new home and needed a place to eat and study. I incorporated some scrap iron, piping with purchased lumber. In addition to beating the lumbar with chains, old tools, chisels, etc. I used a vinegar and steel wool mixture to create the distressed appearnce and sealed it with natural color danish oil. The vinegar also helps create a nice rest patina to the metal which I sealed with a clear spray enamel.
