Rustic Headboard

Submitted by bjd on Sun, 11/02/2014 - 19:59

We finally bought a wonderful King size bed but couldn't afford a headboard.  After seeing this one on Ana's site I knew I could do it.  Purchasing a compound miter saw helped.  For some reason the thought of using a circular saw sets my teeth on edge.  I've found that using the much sturdier miter saw on a workbench has been a piece of cake for me!  I adjusted the plans for the width of our mattress/box springs and didn't go quite as high.  But I'm VERY pleased with the results!  And I swear we slept MUCH BETTER last night with the headboard installed...LOL.

Love that you used all cedar fence boards, do you have an estimated cost for this project? Thanks for sharing!

Reclaimed Wood Bed

I was inspired by Ana's plan for a reclaimed wood bed. I went through the wood in my garage and was able to make this bed in an afternoon and for $0!

Tool List: Drill and screws, jigsaw (or handsaw), orbital sander (or sandpaper), nail gun (or hammer and brad nails), miter saw (or handsaw), polyurethane and a paintbrush.

Material list: 2 wood pallets, 2 – 4×4 posts cut to 54″, 2x4s and 2x6s to make the bed platform (I have a double bed so the finished product is 53″x74″), 1 – 2×6 cut to 57″ to make the ledge on the headboard.

Leaning Bathroom Ladder

Finally, after 21 months of having no place for extra rolls of toilet paper in the toilet area of our new home, I convinced my husband to make this for us. Now he wants one in his workshop bathroom! I've had the plans printed for almost a year!

We couldn't find a 1x10, so we used the table saw to cut down a 1x12 into a 1x10, 1x8 and a 1x6 for the shelves. Also, couldn't find 2x3s for the legs and ended up buying a 2x6 and ripping it in half.

It came out more beautiful than I imagined. Almost done with the Squatty Potty, that we also found on Ana's site, to complete the room :)

8' Buffet/Entry table

Thank you Ana White for having this plan out there. This plan has made my life so much better, considering my wife wanted this and LOVED the final product. This project took me one weekend to complete from start to finish. There were some learning's for me along the way, but I would bot be happier. I changed the top and used two 1x10x8 popolar wood and I used bead board for rear and door panels. Love the end result and could not have done it without your plan.

Wood Pallet Wine Rack

Wine Rack

Material: Re-claimed wood

Specs: 32″ width x 5.25″ depth x 21″ height

Description: Two shelf wine rack.

I had an old pallet leaning up against my garage and decided to build a wine rack for a birthday gift.

This is a very simple project to tackle. I really liked the lettering on the pallet, so I wanted to make sure that was a feature in the finished product. I simply sealed the wood with water based poly to bring out the colors in the wood and to seal it.

If you are not a drinker it also makes a great spice rack!

My favorite TV console ever!

Submitted by Ash12bug on Fri, 11/07/2014 - 18:32

My husband and I were able to build this project one night after putting our kids down. It took us 3 1/2 hours to build. I love how long it is. I wanted a TV console that was pretty long and this one is 8 feet. It's perfect. We didn't change anything about the plans...except we haven't put casters on the bottom and I can't decide if we ever will. Thx for these plans Ana!

Built from Plan(s)
Estimated Cost
We went to a lumber yard and were able to get all the wood and lag screws for about $130
Estimated Time Investment
Afternoon Project (3-6 Hours)
Finish Used
Top- Early American wood stain and sealed with poly acrylic sealant.
Paint- Chalk dust mixed with Baer brand (off white) paint and sealed with hemp oil.
I sanded the paint before sealing it to give it the distressed look because I wanted to see some of the grains in the wood.

I was browsing Etsy for a plate rack and my Hubby said that he could just make me one. So I knew just where to go for the plans! He added crown moulding to the top, bead board to the back and painted it to match our cabinets. I love it! I use it to display his late mother’s Currier and Ives Plate collection. Thanks Ana!

Submitted by lbmcdaniel on Sun, 01/13/2013 - 15:10

We LOVE our Fancy Hall Tree! A little hard work and time, and now we have transformed our entry way with this piece. We debated for about a week if we wanted to buy the Kreg Jig before we started the project, we decided to give it a shot despite the hundred dollar price tag. IT IS LIFE CHANGING! We already cannot wait for another project to use it on.

Modified Rustic Platform Bed

Submitted by kjshute on Fri, 11/20/2020 - 06:50

I built a modified version of the rustic modern 2x6 platform bed. I used 2x10s (instead of 2x6s) for the sides and feet to raise it up a little. I also added another 2x6 to the headboard to make it taller. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably use 1x for the headboard as it's incredibly heavy. The entire bed is immoveable without being deconstructed so it's going to be a challenge when I move. Overall, I'm really pleased with the result.

Braden Entryway Collection

Submitted by LTBrebner on Fri, 01/18/2013 - 14:17

As a mom of 5 children, my entryway was always a mess. I decided that I was going to take things into my own hands and figure something out. I found Ana's site and I saw that Ana had this Entryway system and decided I was going to make it. So one day, I went to town and bought the material came home and started to build. I also decided, I wanted to dress the hutches up a bit, with bead board and a trim. I think that it turned out awesome. With 4 boys in the house I ended up using a heavy durable slide and cut my draws a little bit smaller. I added an entryway carpet with a rubber bottom on it in the drawers, to keep them cleaner. My children love them so much and it has helped us organize and keep the entryway cleaned.

Estimated Cost
$400-$500

Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)

Benjamin Moore Aura Interior in simply white. I added two coats of simply white. I also put a clear coat on when the white was dry.

This is amazing! I am a mum of 4 and i am so over the morning "can't find my shoes" panic every morning! I would love to have something this big, but i don't have the room inside and our garage isn't mouse proof (kids school bags and mice just seem like it might be a bad combo). Am going with something a bit slimmer for an empty closet we have and i am definitely borrowing the carpet idea. Just a quick question, re painting... Was the paint gloss, matte? And with the poly, has it made it go yellow at all? .... oh i am so excited to get mine done!!!! Thanku for sharing!

Thank You, I love walking by and looking at them and seeing how my entryway looks now. It was totally worth all the work. As for the paint, I used the aura in egg shell. Then the clear coat was clear and did not yellow the paint at all. I went to my paint store and asked him for a clear coat that did not yellow. I can get you the name if you would like? Thank you again.

This project is built from a/b sanded plywood, pine select trim, and pine 2x2 furing stirps.  I was a little scared to do the drawers as i have not had great luck with them in the past.  But after watching some videos and reading the tutriol for the slides i tackled it and it came out great.  I didnt want the wheels so i made the side 2" taller and it worked out great.

Natural Look of Rustic X Coffee Table

Submitted by aleeman27 on Mon, 01/21/2013 - 19:01

This is my first real woodworking project. This is my version of the Rustic X coffee table. Was made from raw lumber, not what you normally buy at a lumber store. Made of White pine. It wasn't planed either haha. That took me lots of extra time sanding and evening things out. But I do love the knots! After everything was assembled, I used an ebony wood filler in some of the cracks around the knots or any slight splits to add more to that rustic look. I sure to love the fact I made that decision! After that set up for a few hours, I used a natural stain. Only one coat. I sealed it with about 4 coats of glossy polyurethane. I definitely made some mistakes and learned from them. Although, I have to say the Kreg jig is my most favorite tool! If you don't have one, GET ONE! Best invention ever. I am actually onto my second project. I am making the matching end tables out of the same wood, same tree, so they will all be identical. I cant wait to get them all finished and displayed in my living room!

You did a beautiful job for your first project, I love the finish. I love my Kreg jig too, it was my Christmas present to myself. I used the little single jig to build a project, man what a difference the upgrade makes!
