Are you the first to build this? Haha, I've loved the plan, but never wanted to try it because I hadn't ever seen it built. It's confirmed, I love it! Great job!

Rustic X coffee table

Submitted by mdlarson on Sun, 03/08/2015 - 16:07

We recently purchased the L shaped couch pictured with the table but we didn't have a coffee table to match it.  I had been wanting to build the Rustic x coffee table for some time and I finally had the perfect spot for it!  To make the table a little more unique I added a herringbone pattern to the top.

TV Stand with 2 different stains

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 06/06/2017 - 19:28

Wife picked this plan for our TV stand for our new TV. Took 2 weekends to make and total cost was ~ $100.

Followed the build instruction from this website except for the "X" on both sides. I do not own a miter saw to cut all the differrent angles. Hence I cut the 60 degree angles using circular saw and speed square and put the x togetter by creating dados 3/4" deep on the center of both the 2x2 member of the X using a router.

For stains, we used Minwas Expresso for the bottom and the top we used Golden Pecan. 2 coats of stain folloed by 2 coats of high gloss polyurethane.

Estimated Cost
~$100

Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)
Finish Used
1. Minwax Golden Pecan Stain
2. Minwax Expresso Stain
3. Minwax High Gloss Polyurethane

First big project

This was the first time I've tried to build anything this big. I have to say, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, especially since I didn't have a miter saw (just a circular saw) when I built this. I don't have a lot of time off from work, so it took me about 30 hours to build, but went surprisingly smooth.

Built from Plan(s)
Estimated Cost
$550.00
Estimated Time Investment
Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)
Finish Used
Behr Scuff Defense Interior Satin Enamel (can't recall specific color at the moment) and Minwax Espresso stain on top.

Bench Side Table

Submitted by keribeth on Sun, 04/21/2013 - 06:38

I altered the plans for the Providence Bench to make this shorter bench, which I'm using as a side table. I love the chunky look of the 2x4s and the angled legs! I built it in an afternoon, but finishing took a bit longer, and I'm listing it as intermediate because of making angled cuts and beveling some ends, but it really wasn't that hard. Cost is for lumber only--I used leftover stain and polyurethane.

Storage Bench

Submitted by bRick on Sat, 06/10/2017 - 17:26

Pretty basic bench made from Home Depot pine boards (the cheap ones, not the Select Pine stuff). I had some extra trim pieces from a past project so used that for the base trim. That stuff is pretty cheap anyhow so it wouldn't be too much to add to other projects.

I didn't have too much trouble with this one other trying to get the paint on evenly.

Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
Rustoleum Satin Black with General Finishes water-based clear coat (Flat)

Narrow Cottage End Tables

Submitted by akwebb3 on Tue, 08/03/2021 - 14:21

We bought new couches and of course they were larger then what we had in the Family Room previously and my old end tables would no longer fit. I needed something narrow to go on either side of the sofa and these fit the bill perfectly! I also really liked that they had drawers for remotes or other random things that usually just end up on top of the end tables.

Platform Toddler Bed

Submitted by sraper2 on Fri, 04/26/2013 - 08:18

I got my inspiration for this bed from the Fillman Platform Bed. I left the platform off, used 2x6s, and added bun feet. I love how low it is to the ground because I don't have to worry about my kiddos rolling off at night or jumping and getting hurt.

Bristol Outdoor Chairs

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 06/18/2017 - 18:44

These were great plans to work from and we love how the entire set turned out.  We already had an outdoor table so we also built and replaced the top with one that matched the chairs. We spent more for outdoor fabric and marine grade foam for the cushions since they're exposed to weather, but the results were worth it.

Estimated Cost
$300 for cedar and finishing supplies; $100 for outdoor cushion fabric; $250 for marine grade foam inserts.

Grandson's Loft Bed

Submitted by mmcuevas on Fri, 09/10/2021 - 10:20

So, my grandson's room is quite small and my daughter was asking for advice on how to arrange things. I found this plan and figured it would be perfect! It was quite easy to build, but did take longer than I thought. We had three of us working on it and we build it over Labor Day Weekend. It isn't perfect, but my daughter says it just adds character. He loved the bed and the extra space to play underneath. It really did the trick to open up the room. Thanks Ana for all the great plans! You are my idol!! Now, I just have to build one for all the grandkids!

Woven back bench

Submitted by JoshMonroe on Tue, 04/30/2013 - 15:30

I started building a different bench, but I decided halfway through that I didn't like my design. I found this, and loved it, so I modified my partially built bench to incorporate the woven back design. I substituted in a few mortise and tenon joints for strength, and used either kreg or waterproof glue for the non-structural joints. The seat bottom is made from 2x4's I resawed in half. I also rounded over the edges of the 'Y' pieces, which I think makes it look a bit more like they're woven together. Thanks for the plans, this is a great addition to my front porch!

Beautiful build! I love the details such as the edges of the Y pieces as you said. It definite adds more dimension and the curves on the arms as well!

Thanks! I saw a cabinet in a book on wood finishing that had adjoining edges routed like that. It looked so good there, I decided to try it here, and I'm glad I did!
