Ana's ultimate workbench (Ryobi)

Submitted by CABANE on Fri, 01/12/2018 - 13:38

This is the perfect workbench for my needs.

I upgraded the casters to bigger ones as my shop's floor is in rough shape.

I also added storage under the two work surface next to the miter saw. This was just a matter of closing under the 2X4 frame and making the two sections on casters a little shorter. The only downside for that mod is that the plywood can bend a bit since it is not screwed to the frame. I don't mind since it falls flat as soon as there is weight on it. Also, this mod makes it hard to include fence system (it would need to be removable, like fixed with dowels only, no glue) and almost impossible to include a precise fence system since it would need to be removable. In my case, I do rough, non-repetitive cuts, so there is no need.

TIP : Pay a little extra for smooth plywood. I lost a lot of time sanding mine :(

Awesome! Do you have pictures/info for the cart that has the Dewalt table saw? I have the same one and would love to build the cart for it.

DIY Providence Bench

Hooray! I recently finished building a dining room bench. For this project, I used the Providence Bench plans by Ana White. I started this project in May, and two months later it is finally complete! I am really happy with how the bench turned out! It is pretty sturdy and makes for a nice addition to the dining room!

Sturdy Work Bench - First project completed!

Submitted by kmatt55 on Sun, 05/22/2011 - 16:04

My first project from Ana's website! I figured in order to make more furniture I'm going to need a sturdy work bench to help me along the way. I cut my legs at 36" instead of 33". The 3 added inches brings it to a standard kitchen countertop height (I think, at least mine is). Thanks for the inspiration and plan pericles49!

Loft bed for son

I've built a few bookshelves and cubbies before, but nothing on this scale.  I built this in my basement this past December as a Christmas present for my three-year-old son.  The plans were easy to follow.  I believe I spent about $150 on lumber.  The bed is very sturdy.  My kids love it!  Now the the other kids want their own special daddy-made bed :)

Built from Plan(s)
Estimated Cost
$150 on lumber. $50 on wood putty, stain, sand paper, etc. Way better than the $1100+ similar model at the local furniture store!
Estimated Time Investment
Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
min-wax water based stain protected with water-based polycrilic. It all dried way too fast and didn't give me time to correct errors. Next time I will use oil based.

This makes me feel so dumb for buying my pedestals for my washer and dryer... I spent $250 EACH!!! and my detergent and fabric softener don't fit in there!!

We have a HE front-loading washer and because of the power of the spin cycle, it vibrates/moves a lot. Anyone who has these pedestals have problems with that? I don't want a very expensive washer to take a tumble. :)

Not speaking from experience because I haven't built this YET, but... I believe I saw on someone's post that built these that they put some brackets on there to help keep the washer in place.

Replacing Our Outdoor Furniture

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 04/25/2022 - 15:42

When our outdoor furniture started falling apart, we decided it was too expensive to replace until we found your plans for the “Modern Outdoor Chair from 2x4s and 2x6s.”
The design was almost exactly right.
The only change we made was to make the arms taller so the cushions from our original set would work. Instead of 2x6s for the sides we changed one of the boards to 2x8 and adjusted the arm height by a couple of inches. We made the chair first.
We then used the plans for the Loveseat and completed our set.
After painting the first chair after assembly, we decided it was easier to cut the wood and paint the parts prior to assembly and touch it up after.
The design adjustment matched perfectly. We also created a coffee table using the same type of assembly.
We know these loveseat and chairs will last!!!
Thanks so much

Ladder shelf

Submitted by mltdblack on Tue, 10/16/2018 - 19:58

My kids desperately needed storage for their bathroom. The vanity is separate from their toilet and tub/shower. They were always forgetting to grab a towel before bath time. When I saw the wooden ladder shelf I thought it was perfect for the space. The only problem I had was figuring out the angle and height to place the supports on the front legs. With the help of my husband and a level it was a breeze. Once again it took longer for me to apply the finish than it did to build.

Chick Brood Box Enclosure & Steps

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 04/30/2023 - 11:28

We have our new chicks in a 2’x4’ stock tank as a brooder. Since it’s outside on a covered porch, I wanted something to keep predators out, but also to allow our kids to reach in and hold the chicks—they love holding them! I built the 32”x54”x32” enclosure with 2x4s and hardware cloth. The bottom and sides are sealed with wire and the top has a lid that closes securely with a latch on either side. The steps are perfect for our kids to stand on so they can reach in to refill the food and water and pet or hold the chicks.

I haven't done much wood working but I found Ana White's plan and followed along with her video. Was able to easily assemble this beautiful table in one afternoon. Next step, sanding and finishing. I'm definitely going to try more projects.

Ana White Barn Door Entertainment Center / Closet

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 10/02/2019 - 17:07

After many months of trying to find the perfect piece of furniture for our bedroom, I stumbled upon Ana White’s barn door entertainment center. I loved it so much that instead, we turned it into an armoire for our bedroom. Behind the barn doors are shelves that holds our clothes, and in the center we added simple pull out drawers. The center space was perfect for our tv. We had to rework the size of the piece and it is 7 feet instead of the 8 feet that the plan called for. This is my favorite build (we have done a lot of them)!
