Farmhouse Bed King Size

Submitted by CCNew on Thu, 09/13/2012 - 14:40

This was my gift to my husband for our 23rd Wedding Anniversary. I decided to build it on Friday and had it built the following Friday (but not stained). I was able to work on it a few hours each night.

This is my very first attempt at building anything bigger than a tole-painting project and I'm thrilled with the results.

If you have ANY skills at all, this is NOT a difficult project but it IS a heavy one!

I refused to let my husband know what I was building so I was on my own moving things around. It tipped over on me twice and I had the bruises to prove it.

I searched and searched and found a great price ($13 + shipping) on the side-rail hardware at http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2003981/9364/hafele-nomortise-bed-rail….

We like traditional looking furniture but wanted a touch of a modern feel. So I stained the inside panel with one coat of black stain and then we went over it with a thin coat of the oak stain that we used on the rest of the bed.

We opted to use the standard metal bed frame that goes with our box spring and mattress set. So it basically just sits inside the head & foot boards and side-rails. Eventually we will be adding the box of drawers or baskets underneath and then putting the cleats and cross supports instead of the metal bed frame.

craft table

Submitted by djdaho on Thu, 07/10/2014 - 12:25

I had been trying to figure out what kind of craft desk/table i was going to put in my craft room. I ran across ana white's modern craft table and knew it was the one.
My husband was kind enough to help me through the process and we completed it in about 2.5 days.
we live in AZ so it is pretty darn hot right now to be out in the garage making it, but we got it done! We tweaked a few things like height and we didn't use the risers.
It is our first build so it was a bit challenging and we learned some things along the way. But having the Kreg Jig definitely helped with putting it together.
we no sooner go it in the room and the cats claimed it as theirs!!
I haven't set it up w/ baskets yet, but will be doing that in the next few weeks.
Thank you Ana for the FREE plans, i will be checking out the site for more plans that we can get building!

Horse Stable

This took me much longer than I anticipated, mostly due to my being a novice and stubbornly trying to complete the project without the Kreg jig.  Everything went much more smoothly once I had all of the proper tools.

I had to sneak to do all of this during my toddler's naptime on school days.  It took me nearly 20 hours over two weeks to finish as I had to clean everything up and hide it so he wouldn't see it and tell his sister!  If I would have had the Kreg jig from the start, I would have saved myself a significant amount of time and effort.

Estimated Cost
$50, plus $40 for the Kreg jig

Two colors of stain - brown for the underside of the roof and the flooring surface, grey on the surface of the roof to look like slate roof tiles. Two colors of paint - a traditional barn red with white trim.

Balin Console Table with a twist

Submitted by CustomPulp on Wed, 10/19/2016 - 11:39

We needed an entry way table with storage.   The Balin Console Table was the perfect size for our needs.   I modified the drawers by attaching a wood frame around each one.  I decided to taper the legs with my mitre saw.   The hardware was purchased at Pottery Barn ($4/each) and the color is Valspar Turquoise / Gray - Semi Gloss.   I extended the leg length 6" to make the cabinet counter top heigth (plans call for a table heigth).

Project was easy (8 hours) from construction to finish.

One advantage I had was using a sliding power mitre saw with a 12 1/4" cross cut for the 1x12 material.   It's possible to get a decent cut with a circular saw but the sliding compound mitre saw definitely makes that portion of the project go much quicker.

For best results, I recommend finish sanding with 220 grit and 2 coats of paint rubbing with steel wool after first paint application.

Pantry Door Spice Rack

Submitted by JakeZFW on Thu, 07/16/2020 - 16:50

This is a great project to clear up space in the pantry. I followed the Ana-White plans for the upper rack and then decided I needed more space for my larger Costco spices. For this I followed the plans for the top 23” but with 2 shelves. I gave myself extra depth by using 1x4’s instead of dowels. I work very slowly, so both portions took me about a day apiece with sanding, painting, etc. My favorite tool is now the Kreg jig. Totally worth the $40.

cutest mudroom

Submitted by kdc5894 on Tue, 09/18/2012 - 09:08

I loved the plan for the mudroom, but since this is our front entry, I needed something to hide all our stuff; so I added doors. And crown molding for a little extra! The left tower has a bar for hanging coats; underneath are hooks for the kids' coats. The right tower has five cubbies. I made the "drawer" under the bench from wood from our old fence.

I love what you did with your closet! This is exactly what I am looking to do. What size wood did you use for the doors(1x2, 1x4...)? Since you have been using the closet/mud room for a while now is there anything you would add or do differently? Like making it deeper or adding more shelves? Thanks!

Laundry Sorter - LOVE these bins!!

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 10/22/2016 - 17:40

Laundry Sorter

We are expecting baby #4, and I knew we needed to get the laundry under control before we added a new family member. I cannot tell you how helpful these have been for eliminating laundry piles and encouraging our kids to put away their own baskets. And I splurged on a $9 gallon of "oops" paint from Home Depot to make them fun and cheery, too. I highly recommend this laundry sorter project for those who feel like the laundry never ends. It's such a great investment in your sanity!

King farmhouse bed

Submitted by Lilbitmojo on Sun, 07/19/2020 - 12:48

LOVED building this bed!! Been wanting a bed frame forever and came across this. I will say, the only thing I would change (if I build another) is using brackets to attach the support slats.. I wanted to cry when I had to drill through the front of the footboard 😂😂 and attaching them to the head of the bead proved challenging as well, just because the thing is so massive!! I’m fairly new at this, so, I must say... not too shabby!! Thank you Ana White!! You are my spirit animal❤️

Providence Table (Modified)

Submitted by pookster on Thu, 09/20/2012 - 06:28

I modified the version of the providence table found here and on other sites to be an 8ft long table. I have found plans of a 10ft table with 4x4s as the base and then the 8ft version was with doubled 2x4's. But i wanted to have a 8ft table with 4x4s so i made one. I used white pine for the table top because i wanted to stain it and then pressure treated for the bottom because i was just going to paint it. I stained the top with cabot's australian timber oil in a honey teak to match our deck, I then painted the bottom with an exterior white paint. Let me know what you think.

Farm Style Table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 10/26/2016 - 07:14

My boyfriend and I made this farm style table based on plans from Ana's site. We LOVE it. We wanted it to appear rustic with natural woods tones so we used Special Walnut Stain, Poly, and Light Brown Briwax. Even though it looks raw, its silky smooth to the touch.

Thanks for posting these plans! We already on to our next project. We have the wood purchased for the rustic coffee table and console table, and I have my eye on the farmhouse bed frame and a set of night stand tables.

Cedar Planter for Pole Beans

Submitted by swhitead on Mon, 07/20/2020 - 10:41

Increased width of box to 46" by using 8 fence boards instead of 3. put base at 12" down, lined box with landscaping fabric to hold dirt. Created trellis with 1x2 boards with 10" long corner braces, spaced screws 6" apart around edges and weaved cotton thread to create the trellis. Used 12" scraps of 2x2 to create a "slot" inside the center of the planter to support the trellis. Added container mix and green pole beans started in egg cartons earlier in the spring.

Thanks!!! Love it

Thanks so much for the plan!! I altered the plan so it would fit the cushions I brought and used 2x4s and 2x3s only. Total cost with cushions - $45! Excited to make a matching love seat!

I was afraid that 1x4s may be too weak, so I used 2x4s instead. It's pretty sturdy.
