Ice cream cart

A friend wanted a tatty old chest freezer turning into a traditional looking ice cream cart for her business. The freezer itself was way to heavy and not really fit for purpose but, after a week of tinkering about with a couple of design changes here and there to accommodate the weight, I don't think I've done too bad a job.

The internal frame is Nordic fir, half lapped at the joints and secured in place with 38mm oak dowels, the cladding is 6mm birch ply finished with paint from the French chic Al fresco range, the writing proved a little challenging on the the eyes and my hands aren't as steady as they used to be but she's happy.

Cottage Loft Bed WITH Stairs

I've been working on this little dandy since before Ana posted her Cottage Loft bed. It took longer because of the 1x6's but I thought it would be cuter that way and more cottage looking. All of the 1x6 boards were fastened together with the Kreg Jig, and the house is sturdy and HEAVY! My intentions were never to use it as a loft bed but rather a playhouse for my two girls and a place to put all their stuff. My oldest has however fallen in love with it, so when I feel comfortable with her sleeping that far off the ground I would guess that it will become a bed. For those of you that are contemplating it a Kreg Jig and some kind of paint sprayer are absolute musts for this project, no way around it! And don't plan on completing it in a short amount of time, with babysitters and being a stay at home mom it took almost a month from first board cut to bringing it back in from the garage. Dog kennel

This was my first project with the kreg jig and I love it. Pretty easy once I got the hang of it. I used beadboard in place of 1/4 ply to dress it up a little but more. The hardest part was attaching the sides to eachother, I used 'L' brackets so it could be taken apart.
My dogs love this kennel! It is large enough for my weimaraner and my lab/pitbull mix to stay in it together. Most mornings they are laying in there waiting on us to lock the door.
I purchased a vinyl covered stress mat from 'Blue', it fits really well inside and just pulls out to be wiped down. I haven't needed to but it can be hosed down also.

I am wondering what type of latch's those are and were you got them. I am also wondering were you purchased this mat from. I tried searching blue but could not find anything?

Custom Retail Counter/Bar

This is our first original design! We had a request for a custom bar/retail counter for my mother in law's children's re-sale store and this is what we came up with! After we found a ridiculously awesome deal on 3/4 inch hardwood plywood (the only down side was that it was already cut into 2ft by 4ft pieces) we quickly got to work. Using our trusty Kreg Jig we turned 4 pieces of plywood into one large piece to create the front of the bar. From there we attached 1x3s and 1x2s to cover any seams that were caused by the different plywood pieces.

The finish was kind of a struggle but I love how it turned out in the end. It looks like the piece was made 100 years ago and definitely has a lot of soul. I started with Early American but it made the wood too red. So from there, I layered on Kona stain, lime wax, and dark wax and this is how it turned out! Which was not exactly what I was going for, but I LOVE it!

We are so happy with how it turned out. It is being picked up by its new owner tonight and I'm soooo sorry to see it go. We're happy that the piece will be functioning beautifully in the store with TONS of storage in the back. We're very proud of this one.

oh and it cost us about $130 for all lumber and finish materials.

Play fort and Swing Set

I wanted to build a structure for the kids to play in and on. I used the playhouse deck design and made it 8 feet by 8 feet. The "roof" is removable to provide shade when it's sunny. It's just 2x2 and a tarp - pretty simple, but it does the job. I used treated posts, dog eared fence boards andlots of screws. I stained and built the walls in my garage before assembling it. Once all of the wood at been stained, it came together pretty quickly with the grandkids help...Lol

Ten Dollar Cedar Raised Garden Beds

Since moving and finding Knock Off Wood, we decided now would be a good idea to try some gardening (again...after failed attempts!) These beds are so simple but beautiful out in the yard and for the first time I actually have vegetables growing. We used the cedar fence posts just as Ana suggested.

King Farm House Bed

My husband designed this after the farm house bed. I wanted panels on the head board and foot board to "dress it up a bit" and storage drawers. He did a wonderful job. I don't think I have ever had a more prized piece of furniture. Now to find some tall night stands.

Cedar deck box

I had to modify these plans to use what I had on hand. I used left over cedar fence pickets (planed down and sealed) and adjusted the size to fit all my outdoor cushions. Overall dimensions are 49" wide x 28" deep x 26" high. I also used 2x4's instead of 2x2's because that is what I had in my shop. I added 1x3's around the top to fit snugly instead of using hinges (again trying to use what I had on hand). We get A LOT of rain in the summer so hopefully the cushions will stay dry. I also added some screen left over from the screened in porch to the bottom before adding the "floor" to keep bugs out. I just stapled it to the frame before adding the floor boards. I did add a piece of treated 1/4" plywood under the top in hopes of keeping the rain out.

Folding (or not) Plant Stand

This was the most complicated project I've built yet, and of course I had a few problems. First, I drilled some holes in the wrong places, and things didn't line up. So i drilled them again. Then I had trouble with holding everything level without a helper. When it came time for the plant stand to stand ip, it wouldn't.

No worries. I screwed a couple of short boards underneath the top rack and made it a Stationary Plant Stand!

The thing is really cute and everyone asks me where I got it. I tell them I made it myself from Ana White plans. They never notice the extra holes in the legs or wonder why I can't fold it up and store it!

I saw the barn shaped greenhouse plan but preferred a regular roof pitch. I did however incorporate the corrugated polycarbionate as a covering. I find it odd that you guys installed the polycarbonate horizonitally instead of vertically.

Anyway thanks for the info on polycarbonate.

Farmhouse coffe table

This was great easy project I could do for my wife while she was at work and surprise her before she came home. I use the same color recommended stain but added the valspar white glaze to makenit more gray and weathered look. Sealed with a matte finish.

2x4 table

Made this table for my daughter. She stained it golden oak, and plans to paint over it and distress. Its a handy good sized table for a desk or small dining table. Will put more pics when finished. I used 1x4s for the table top instead of 2x4's. I used the kreg jig to join the top together.

The daughter painted it with white milk paint, 2 coats. She did some sanding, and then went over it with brewed coffee.

Pergola Project

Thank you for the plans! They were easy to follow and my girlfriend and I are very happy how the pergola turned out. I used the 2x6's and 2x4's due to being in Nebraska with heavy snow and high winds often to give it more durability. I can't wait to start on the sectional. Total cost was about 350 dollars...so cheap in comparison to what they sell for.

Thank you Ana, I have had multiple people say it looks like it is on fire...hilarious :) We will be adding outdoor fabric over the top for shade and gathering outdoor curtains on the posts. Very nice Pergola, the color is perfect and the construction rocks! This is on my list of to- do projects for my mom. I have not really made any "outdoor" projects yet. So, I'll keep getting my feet wet with indoor projects.

You mentioned that you combined another set of plans when it came to cutting the notches. That's one of the hang ups I have getting started is that I'm not sure how best to do that. What did you do? The pergola looks great!

I is the Behr weatherproof stain and the color was "coffee". It took two gallons which was two coats. Post pics when your husband is done I would like to see them. Good luck with the bed.

Im trying to build a 10x10 just like this but im trying to figure out exactly what wood dimensions I should order before i do. Im going to use cedar and I know i want to use 6x6 posts and I want to use 2x6 on top like yours but i cant figure out what exactgly I need to order. My wife wants me to do the decorative around the posts as well.

Hi I was hoping you would share your plans with me I live in oregon I wanna make one of these but I plan on using 12 ft 4x4 posts putting them 3 ft in the ground and I like the way you used 2x4's and 2x6's id like to know the dimensions you used if you modified anas plan what was your spacing and what degree did you cut the outside piece's on the 2x4's and 2x6's I love the design you created from anas plan

Single picket recycle friendly bird feeder

I deviated unknowingly from the plan, lol. The top is wrong. I trimmed a half inch off one side to make the two lengs even, but you aren't supposed to use the lengths to go all the way down, but rather the lengths going accross as an overhang. Our project still came out nice, and my little girl will put hers together tomorrow.

I am getting ready to do a privacy fence project and I was debating between pine and cedar....this project actually seems to have confirmed I am allergic to cedar, so it was very useful in plans for a bigger project and saved years of sneezing.

We love our table with the new similar bench and also bankette seating my husband made also. Chairs we bought at IKEA to match. The bench he made from the table plans but modified them to fit under the table. We have a small space to pass by the table from one end to the other. So the bench under the table helps visually make the space look bigger.

With wood, foam, paint and fabric we estimated the cost of about $300 for everything. The two chairs we bought at IKEA. The barn wood on the bankette seating we got from a friend from an old barn on his property. The bankette seating/storage benches my husband measured and made himself. No plans were used for that. If you need alot of foam for cushions buy on the internet, its alot cheaper than a fabric store.

White paint, foam, and fabric. We used home decor fabric from Walmart. Super cheap and it only cost me about $20 for the entire project for the fabric. To white wash the top we used the same white paint as the bottom but added water in the paint, then wiped it off. We also used felt coaster rings on the bottom of the small bench seating and the table. Easy to pull in and out. You can buy those at Lowes or Home Depot.
