X Console Table

Submitted by MichelleC on Thu, 10/04/2012 - 13:53

I built this a couple feet shorter than in the plans because it is for my neighbor's fish tank! It was fun to build and I'm in love with the finished product. She's going to paint or stain it herself. The pics were taken in my messy, projects-everywhere carport right before the neighbor hauled it off! Her son-in-law wants one now, and I will be building one for MYSELF right away as well! Thank you Ana!!!

Live-Edge Cedar Chair

This chair came together beautifully and is really an impressive piece. I managed to finish it in about 8 hours start to finish. I used the "original plans" that are linked in the description in order to avoid pocket holes (which are out of my skill range for now). In step 2, there is an option to place the back support on the inside of the legs instead of the outside for lesser of an incline. I followed this and would strongly recommend it. The chair is sturdy, wide, and comfortable even without a cushion. Thank you for the detailed plans!

Miter saw stand with rolling tool storage carts

Submitted by UCF99ENG on Fri, 11/25/2016 - 18:04

When I saw the plans for the miter saw stand that had two rolling tool storage carts, I knew I had to make it.  Having a cart used for an outfeed table is a brilliant idea.  It was a fun project to make.  I tweaked a few dimensions because I like taller workbenches because I'm taller.  Now my shop is looking more organized.

Very nicely done.  I am thinking about building the same system.  How is the dust control on the mitre saw working?  That is my one concern, that sawdust will be all over my other tools when I use the mitre saw.

I don't really have a dust control system.  I let the dust fall where it does and then just sweep it up.  I have a wet/dry vac but my wife uses it in the house because it's more powerful than many other vacuums.  If the dust gets out of control, I can just bring the wet/dry vac out to the garage and clean up.  There is lots of room to maneuver the vacuum.

Very nicely done! I am thinking about building this same system but am worried about the dust from the mitre saw getting all over my other tools stored in the rolling sections.  Do you have any issues with that?

Williams Sonoma Inspired Chicken Coop

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/10/2020 - 18:46

We took some creative liberties on the Williams Sonoma inspired coop posted here. Because we don’t get a whole ton of sun in our backyard, we eliminated the herb garden planter and instead built a longer run. We also made the coop a bit wider to accommodate for the inevitable chicken math. And, you’ll notice the vent both shaped differently and is a bit higher. This was to increase air flow, avoid the dreaded draft, and to lend a more Scandinavian vibe. We also decided to place the chicken exit on the outside wall to allow for more living space under the coop itself. The project took about a month to complete, dedicated to only working weekends. And, it was very much over budget! Who knew wood is so expensive?! But overall, the outcome was even better than I expected. The chickens love it and I don’t mind looking at it!

P.S. this was a pretty advanced project. The fractions alone had me yelling “uncle!” Thankfully my husband is pretty handy, and my father-in-law (career in the construction industry) had a few pointers, so they took the lead in executing. I chose the paint colors and suggested the deviations from the original blue print. ;-)

Thank you! Yes, I suppose everyone is wanting wood for home improvement projects now that we're not leaving the house! Also, I didn't mean to post a picture of my son and his friends. Am I able to delete?

does this roof have the same angle as the 'Small Chicken Coop with Plans'? It seems to be 'less steep'. Wanting to start this project next weekend and trying to get my mind wrapped around everything!. Thanks.

Modular Bookcase turned Game Console table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 01/23/2021 - 08:24

I'm married to a manchild lol and he wanted a custom Nintendo console like one he saw online. I made this a little taller and added more shelves to store the games. He also decided he wanted a back and I happened to have some extra faux brick paneling. This was when he got super excited to add stickers to it and complete the wall too. It fits everything he needed and it actually turned out pretty incredible. He wanted the controller to be 3D even though I'm itching to try out epoxy. But maybe on a later project :)
The plans are so easy to follow and this being my 6th project from AnaWhite I'm really learning alot!
I can't thank you enough for what you do!!!

I actually used some black semi gloss outdoor paint to avoid another trip to the store, and I wouldnt recommend it. The layer paints didnt stick and the finish was less than desirable. Lesson learned lol. I also used acrylic on the details

I love this plan, it was easy to follow.

I live in Israel, so had to translate to centimeters.

I made the X from 2 full pieces, cutting a half width dado. Found it easier to assemble.

Few minutes after placing it in the house front, a friend suggested buying it....

Thanks

My First Project

Submitted by sbonander on Thu, 03/18/2021 - 08:16

I learned so much for this first project. I used redwood instead of cedar and finished it to match our fence. I coated the inside with flex seal. Next time, I'll drill drain holes nearer to the front edge of each box so they drain into the box below a bit better. I angled the bottoms of each box with a band saw on a 15 degree tilted platform. They fit like a glove! Thanks for a great plan.

Floating shelves for books + Vinyl storage

Submitted by careaud on Wed, 03/24/2021 - 14:50

I love Ana Whites's site. I go to it all the time when I have project ideas. The Video tutorials, combined with plans, is just amazing. Plus, the brag pages of people that have done projects from what they found here. Thank you Ana.

The floating shelves part was from Ana's site. The other part was done using my own plans (I used SketchUp to draw them)

My wife added the books, plants, and decorations, and I finally opened the dusty boxes that contained my insane LP collection. The experience has nothing to do with steaming music, it is far more complete.

I used plant-lantern brackets to prevent books from falling from the sides of the shelves. All done, this is great.

I would like to change the main picture, but I get strange messages from the site when I do this.

This part is hard, as wood cost has never been this expensive. Also, the plant hocks were rather expensive. In fact, I don't want to know the total I've spent on this, but glad I did it myself, otherwise, cost would have doubled, if not more.

Extra Large Storage Bed with Stairs

Submitted by shellyward on Sun, 03/15/2015 - 22:22

My daughter wanted a bed with lots of storage so searched on here and found the queen and king storage beds, but she wanted something taller.  So, I modifed the plans for the bed and made it slightly larger than a queen storage bed, but not quite as big as the king, and almost twice the height.  I then built a set of stairs (modified the plans for the stairs as well so she would have 2 sets that created a bridge for her dog's kennel to go under her bed hidden away slightly.  This was by far my biggest and most challenging project to date, but we were thrilled with the way it turned out.  She loves the bed and I loved the time I was able to spend with her while building (she is 20 so time like that is far and few between)

Chunky Rustic Hall / Console / Sofa Table

This table is made entirely from Ethically sourced Local Redwood Timber. The wood has been kiln dried which makes it very solid and perfect to make furniture with. This results in a piece which is known for it's sturdiness, it's chunky & rustic look and it's lovely grain and colour.

I have used carefully selected Kiln Dried Timber planks of varying sizes here. When the table has been finished, the grain and colour really shine through.

This table is very sturdy and moderately heavy (Approx 15kg's).

The table may move ever so slightly over it's years too. This is due to the temperature changes in your home and thus it may create very slight cracks and stretches etc. This is perfectly natural and only adds to the rustic charm of this kind of piece. I really like the way wood moves over time and creates a character of it's own. In this regard, each and every table is going to be unique.

The legs on this table are fixed, as is the shelf.

This console table has been distressed and aged and features authentic wear marks such as knocks, dings, scrapes and even nail and screw thread marks!! It looks like it been in this world for generations!

It is then finished off by being waxed all over to treat and protect the wood.

I hope you all like it! It's fun to build.

X end table

Submitted by Bergenj123 on Tue, 06/04/2013 - 19:52

Another project in keeping with my original theme of farmhouse style furniture. I liked the style of this table but wanted to make a smaller end table than the plans. So I scaled down a bit and used 1x4 for the top and bottom shelves and used 1x also for the X. It measures standard height for an end table but its only about 18 inches square. I added some hardware, but not the L brackets on the corners. I have young kids and was a little worried about the edges.

Foldable Farmhouse Rustic Dining Table

My wife wanted a portable farmhouse style rustic dining table that she could take to photoshoots and other events. I started with a top made with 2x6s and make the legs with 4x4s and the rest with 2x4s. Stain is dark walnut with a clear coat on top.

The legs are attached with door hinges and can fold into the top for more portable use. There is also a board that can be inserted in the bottom slots so that when in use the legs can not fold in.

So far the rustic dining table is working out great, although this table is VERY HEAVY and needs 2-3 strong people to carry it around. I have also made a lighter version using 1x6 tops and all 2x4 frame and legs.
